SimplyWeather Privacy Policy

Last updated August 2026

SimplyWeather is free and supported by advertising. Google, our ad provider, collects data through those ads. We ourselves run no servers and receive no information about you. Premium removes the ads and the ad software entirely.

Advertising

The free version of SimplyWeather shows banner ads supplied by Google AdMob. To do that, Google's software runs inside the app and collects information from your device — including your advertising identifier, approximate location, device and app information, and how you interact with the ads.

Google uses this to select ads, measure their performance, and limit how often you see the same one. Google may combine it with data it holds from other apps and websites to build an advertising profile. We do not receive any of it, and we do not sell your data ourselves — but we do earn money from Google showing you these ads, and you should read that as us profiting from advertising built on your data.

On first launch we ask two things: whether you consent to personalised advertising, and — through iOS — whether SimplyWeather may track you across other companies' apps and websites. If you decline, you still see ads, but they are not personalised and your advertising identifier is not used.

Google's own privacy policy governs what it does with this data: https://policies.google.com/privacy

Premium removes this entirely

Premium is not only an ad-free view. When you subscribe, Google's ad software is never started, so no advertising data leaves your device and Google is never contacted. It is the private version of the app, not merely the quiet one.

Location

If you allow it, SimplyWeather uses your device location to show the forecast for where you are. Your coordinates are sent to Apple's WeatherKit service solely to retrieve that forecast. They are not sent to us — we operate no server — and we do not pass them to Google. Ad software may separately derive an approximate location, as described under Advertising.

Your most recent location is kept on your device so widgets and Siri Shortcuts can show current conditions without reopening the app. You can revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings; the app continues to work with cities you search for.

Information we collect

None, directly. SimplyWeather has no accounts, no sign-in and no servers of ours. We receive no information about you or your use of the app. Everything described under Advertising is collected by Google through its software, not by us.

Data stored on your device

Your saved cities, temperature unit, notification preference, advertising consent choice and subscription status are stored locally on your device and shared only between SimplyWeather and its own widgets. This data never leaves your device except as described under Location and Advertising.

Purchases

Subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple. We never see or receive your payment details. The app only learns whether an active subscription exists.

Notifications

If you enable the daily summary, it is scheduled and delivered locally by your device. No push server is involved and no notification content is transmitted.

Your choices

You can change your mind at any time. Tracking permission is under Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking on your device. Advertising consent can be revisited from within the app. Subscribing to Premium stops the ad software from running at all.

Children

SimplyWeather is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from them. Because the free version shows advertising, we recommend Premium, or another app, for a child's device.

Changes

If this policy changes materially — for example if the advertising arrangement changes — the updated policy will be published here and in the App Store listing before the change takes effect.
